Top 10 Life Insurance Companies in the Philippines

Who are the top Life Insurance Companies in the country? The Insurance Commission releases the list of the top insurers albeit late. The latest figures show the numbers of 2009. The ranking is according to total premiums registered.

There are many other areas one should consider when choosing an insurer other than its ranking such as claims experience, customer service, charges, etc. Further, chose a life insurance intermediary (agent, broker, adviser) who will take time to educate you in the rudiments of risk management and not just push a product.

May I know the rank of Malayan Insurance? I thought for a while that Malayan Insurance in the #1 insurance company in the Philippines or the most responsive insurance in the country in terms of service and other benefits.

  2. Garry DC says:

Hi Joe, I think what Malayan Insurance is claiming is on the category of Non-Life Insurance. Categorically, we have 2, Life and Non-Life.

  3. Randell Tiongson says:

@ Joe, my list covers life insurance companies. Last I check, Malayan is the leader in the non-life industry.

  4. Joe Barbieto says:

Thanks Randell and Garry for answering my query. I’m learning a lot from you particularly on matters pertaining to insurance and financial matters. God bless.

  22. jojo c. gimeno says:

life insurance is stable all over. pls try to search and read the insurance code. the government is strict of implementing laws against Life Insurance company. so invest now and be secured. and be prepared…… uncertain things to come.

  23. Randell Tiongson says:

Please direct your complaint to Sun Life. I have checked with Sun Life but there was no complaint lodged against Ms. Mascarinas. If you have a complaint, I suggest you file one directly with Sun Life.

  24. Gimel Roda says:

May I know the status of LOYOLA? Is it still registered? Thank you.

  25. fe says:

hi! wat can you say about the stand of prulife uk, on its 4th rank! im satisfied with their company, and i would like other people to enjoy the same benefit that im enjoying..i joined them as an agent na because i find it very helpful for me and my family.. may return of premiums, protection, withdrawable din sya.. thank you..

  26. Elvie S. says:

Hellow! i just chanced upon your website. Interesting quesies and comments. I have just joined MANULIFE PHILIPPINES, having come from another multi-national insurance company. It’s only now I realized that when one looks for the insurance needs of the family, one should look at the MARKET CAPITALIZATION of the Company because that is the gauge of their LIQUIDITY. Also, verify with Independent Rating Agencies, such as Standard & Poor’s, Moody’s, Fitch, A.M. Best and DBRS, in terms of Financial Capability and Claims Paying Ability. Highly recommended that you check out the ratings of your servicing insurance companies.

  27. it’s interesting to know that life insurance is a very reliable investment; savings and protections both you can avail… i’m an insured of paramount life and general insurance corp. and at the same time an agent… let’s all be insured…

  28. Achie Reyes says:

We are from Hawaii and would like to buy life insurance for our relatives back in the Phillipines. The beneficiary will be a Special Need Trust for the kids. We plan to pay the premium thru our Philippine bank account via automatic payment. Can you recommend any life insurance company who can help us? Do we need to go to the Philippines to set those up? Any advice will be highly appreciated. Mahalo and Aloha.

  29. Yosa :D says:

    Hi guys,

It is not about the rank of insurance company you want to invest but it is all about how the soliciting agent took care of his/her client. Some agent after only in commission / sales they got but not with the client. Yes your company is in a higher rank, but does the agent protects the name of the company?

    email me : bhabechie_18@yahoo.com

  30. Jojo Manching Jr. says:

Hi Achie Reyes, can I get your contact details, say your email address? you can email at jomanchjr@yahoo.com I can help you with that. Thank You.

  31. grace suarez says:

    hi fe try also sunlife

  32. ching says:

Archie Reyes, I maybe of help to your query too.

  33. Rey Villa says:

Are still safe to invest in insurance companies? Since we aware what happens some of pre-needs companies that closed recently and also some banks, we had doubt to put our money in some insurance company.

  34. Hi Mr Rey Villa, yes it is safe to invest in an insurance company. Insurance companies are more transparent than pre need companies and banks. You can check the unit price in the newspaper, and even in the internet, if you bought a VUL policy. Our company started 1848, and owned by Prudential plc in London. We paid 324 crew people aboard the Titanic way back 15 April 1912. We pioneered unit-linked products w/c are insurance plans packed with investment. You can check 0ur website http://www.prulifeuk.com.ph or email me at marifeocampo73@yahoo.com

  35. Rien Hermans says:

Randall, even the 2011 figures are on the website of the IC already!

  36. dianne malacas says:

hi. i would like to ask, what are your insurance policies you don’t offer to your insurers??

  37. Eddie Datario says:

I am looking for Insurance Company to insure my residential property in Betterliving Subdn, Paranaque City. May ask the Philam Life & Gen if they have this services. Thanks

  38. Janiortho says:

    Randell,
read an article in Philstar Newspaper 7-02-12; “Insurers get capital relief”, it states- “The imposition of a higher minimum paid-up capital to further supplement [DO] No. 27-06 after Dec. 31, 2012, shall ensure sufficient protection to the insuring public and further strengthen the integrity of the insurance industry,” the order stated.
The Finance chief has maintained that insurance companies in the country should raise more capital in preparation for the common Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) market by 2015.
Does it mean the various Insurance Companies here are on shaky ground?

  39. Janiortho says:

Randell, another query please- I accessed the IC’s website & tried to find info on a particular Health Insurance Company that was introduced to me & couldn’t find it. I saw the IC’s tel no & an email address, do they entertain queries over the phone?

  40. Randell Tiongson says:

HMO’s are not under the jurisdiction of the IC. I believe its the DoH who overseas them.

  41. Randell Tiongson says:

The IC will declare if insurance companies are solvent or not. Having a bigger capital base is a good idea for the public but the DoF, IC felt it needed to give insurers enough time to comply. The top insurance companies would not have a problem with their capital structures.

  42. Randell Tiongson says:

Philamlife is a life insurance company and does not offer Non-Life. Their non-life arm Philam Insurance was sold and is now known as Chartis.

  43. Sappho Desiree J. Reyes says:

Good rank means good status. Does good rank indicate longevity or stability within the next 30 years? I have engaged into a 10 year term (10 years to pay) insurance policy 2 years ago.

  44. Randell Tiongson says:

You shouldn’t have any problem with the top insurers, they are well capitalized and usually well managed.

  45. Benilda Miranda says:

    Sir,

I just want to seek your advice. I am planning to get an insurance policy for my husband who is working as a seafarer. Could you please give me companies that are good for this type of work.

    Thank you so much.

  50. Joan David says:

    Hi Randell,

I saw your website while I’m browsing for the top 10 life insurance in Philippines. I am currently in Singapore and wanted to invest for a life insurance and mutual finds. When I sent and enquiry to Sun Life, they cannot accommodate me as they need me physically to sign papers.

I heard of this IMG, International Marketing Group. I am about to sign a contract for the Khaiser, they are offering but I have some doubts.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your kind help.

    Joan :)
