Obedience brings many surprises
By Randell Tiongson on November 9th, 2009Earlier, I was tasked to do the exhortation for Tithes and Offering at church (Victory Christian Fellowship Greenhills). The scripture that I used was Deuteronomy 28:1 (NIV), a verse that my friend Pastor Jayson Lo and I were discussing last Saturday after my event, the No Nonsense Seminar on Finance.
During my exhortation, I talked about my quest to improve my financial situation. I recounted my long standing quest for financial stability which is quite ironic because I’ve been in the financial services industry for ages. I am on my way to achieve not just financial freedom but also financial peace. The secret is not in the knowledge of personal finance as I’ve known all of those for a long time. My financial picture started to clear up when I understood my purpose in life and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. It is in my spiritual surrender that I am liberated in many things, and yes, even financially.
The secret? Obedience. Obey God’s will in all aspects of your life — financial or otherwise and you will achieve things beyond what you can imagine. Submit to the Lord’s will — especially the way we handle our money. It is in stewardship that we realize how amazing God is.
If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:
You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.
The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.
Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.
You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

This teaching was also summarize in the new testament in Matt 6:33 by Jesus when he said Seek First The Kingdom Of God and His Righteousness and everything will be added unto to you. Jesus didnt just say I will add a house, a car, a great business etc..but he said everything as in everything talaga including wealth but that is if we do the two conditions above.
very nice article…true indeed taht in all our works and endeavors in life we must put God first…and surely we can achieve everything because nothing is impossible to God… as long as it is His will….
hi champ, if i’d summarize ur encouraging blog, id encapsulate it in this statement: Obedience to God eventually brings success. Success that goes beyond d material possessions, but success wrapped around by Christ’s unmistakable peace.

I, too is tasked to exhort on Tithes and Offering this Jan 2012 Yes, it’s true..Obedience = Blessings but what struck me most is that Obedience brings PEACE. No one can buy peace…. peace with God knowing that you’re doing His will. Tnxfor this insight. God bless you and continue to use you in His vineyard.
I have been giving my 10% tithe to the church for quite sometime now. It was a pledge I made with God before I landed the job I have now. If I remember it correctly, I told Him that if I get this certain amount of basic salary, I will give my 10th (I know, that’s bargaining and not nice at all). I didn’t get the salary I wanted but still gave my full 10th to the church.
My question now is, I am in financial debt for how many months now, I haven’t paid my credit card in full yet, a result of my bad spending and decisions before. And I am asking God what if I don’t give my full 10th for the next months until I am fully paid but will continue my support to one of the missionaries in full? Would that be okay? Please enlighten me. I really wanna get out of debt before March.
And by the way, a friend offered to lend me money to pay my credit card bills so that it won’t interest anymore but I am not so sure about it because it might show that I don’t trust God enough to let him do it for me. 🙁 Your response about my dilemma is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
